| The LiteratureCircles.com website is co-hosted
by the Walloon Institute and by Stenhouse, the publishers of Literature
Circles: Voice and Choice in the Book Clubs and Reading Groups,
Second Edition (2002). Stenhouse is located in Portland, Maine, and publishes
a wide array of practical and important books on literacy education. The Walloon Institute is one of the nation's premier
residential institutes for educators, now in its13th year. Each summer, Walloon brings
together about 400 educators from around the country to study "best practice"
teaching methods and school change strategies with leading authors, experts, and
consultants. This year's program will be held July 7-11 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.
A number of individuals work on this site, including those
who answer your questions about classroom management of book clubs. Toni Murff,
Marianne Flanagan, Lynnette Emmons, Linda Bailey, and Barbara Morris are master
teachers on leave from their regular positions to work full-time as classroom consultants
at the Center for City Schools at National-Louis University in Chicago. Every day
they help colleagues across the city to implement lit circles and other progressive
practices in their classrooms. Melisa Woodbury and Sara Nordlund teach in the beautiful small town of Hart, Michigan. Mercurial Web Design is a small student-run service,
helping progressive educators get connected. |
